El Mansouri begins consultations for the new government: Meetings expected with RNI and Istiqlal leaders in Rabat

The consultations for the formation of the new Moroccan government have entered their operational phase, one day after King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima Zahra El Mansouri as Head of Government, tasking her with the mission of forming the new executive following the success of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) in the recent legislative elections.
First official steps to build a majority
As part of these consultations aimed at building the future government majority, El Mansouri is receiving delegations in the capital, Rabat, representing the National Rally of Independents (RNI) and the Istiqlal Party, marking the first official steps in the political negotiations.
According to the announced data, the designated Head of Government is scheduled to meet with the RNI delegation at 11:00 AM, followed by a meeting with the Istiqlal delegation at noon, with media briefings to follow each meeting to inform the public about the progress of the discussions.
Map of parliamentary seats and majority challenges
These political meetings are of vital importance given the composition of the House of Representatives resulting from the September 23 elections, which saw the PAM win 97 seats, followed by the RNI with 66 seats, the Istiqlal party with 65 seats, and the Justice and Development Party (PJD) with 54 seats.
Based on these results, El Mansouri is faced with the task of building a parliamentary majority capable of providing solid political support for the future government, making consultations with parties having significant parliamentary weight a central point in defining the contours of the expected government coalition.
Positions of political parties
Following her appointment, El Mansouri emphasized that work would begin immediately to propose a government that meets the expectations of the King and the citizens. In this context, the PAM announced its commitment to dialogue with various political spectra to form a harmonious and strong government majority as soon as possible.
On the other hand, the Justice and Development Party (PJD) announced its position in the opposition and its decision not to participate in the next government, though it agreed to hold a consultative meeting with El Mansouri following a phone call with its Secretary-General, Abdelilah Benkirane.
The challenge of time and constitutional deadlines
Political attention is now turning toward the nature of the understandings that will emerge from these consultations, particularly regarding the distribution of government responsibilities, the composition of the majority, and the priorities of the government program, before completing the remaining constitutional steps related to forming the government and presenting its program before the two chambers of Parliament.
It should be noted that these consultations are taking place within a tight timeframe, as the opening of the first parliamentary session is expected on October 9, which signals weeks of intense negotiations and political contacts to finalize the new government in record time.
