ONCF honored with a prestigious international award in Berlin

The National Office of Railways (ONCF) has received a prominent international award for its water reuse project during its active participation in the « InnoTrans 2026 » international exhibition, held in the German capital, Berlin.
According to available data, the International Union of Railways (UIC) awarded the Moroccan office the « Sustainable Impact Award 2026 » in the « Natural Resources » category. This recognition comes in acknowledgment of the excellence of the « Rewater Train » project, which focuses on adopting an advanced water treatment and reuse system within various railway facilities.
Data released by the Office indicates that this innovative system allows for the reuse of approximately 97 percent of water after proper treatment, directly contributing to a 70 percent reduction in the need for new water resources, while recycling over 8,000 cubic meters of water. The system is already operational in Casablanca, with ongoing efforts to gradually expand it to the cities of Kenitra and Tanger.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, which takes place from September 22 to 25, the Office presented the « Inclusive Mobility » project, which reached the final stage in the « Accessibility, Diversity and Inclusion » category, in addition to showcasing Morocco’s key achievements in the railway industry.
This distinguished international presence coincides with preparations for the « Investment and Financing Solutions for the Future of Railways in Africa » forum, scheduled to be held in Rabat on October 14 and 15, in a strategic partnership between ONCF and the UIC to discuss ways to develop financing mechanisms for the African railway sector.
It is worth noting that the « InnoTrans 2026 » exhibition features a wide participation of 3,170 exhibitors from 59 countries, marking a significant increase of nearly 200 companies compared to the 2024 edition, in addition to showcasing 180 global innovations and 113 railway vehicles representing 17 different countries.
