Washington praises new cooperation dynamic between Rabat and Tel Aviv to strengthen regional stability

A new chapter of strategic cooperation between Rabat, Washington, and Tel Aviv
In a move reflecting the acceleration of regional coordination, the US Ambassador to Morocco, Duke Buchan, announced the opening of a “new chapter” of trilateral cooperation bringing together the United States, Morocco, and Israel. This announcement follows a high-level diplomatic meeting held in New York, which included Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, his Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar, as well as the US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz and senior advisor Aryeh Lightstone.
US appreciation for the path of the “Abraham Accords”
Ambassador Buchan, in a post published by the US Embassy in Rabat, emphasized that the meeting served as a vital opportunity to reaffirm the historical Joint Declaration signed in 2020, stressing that this dynamic could not have been achieved without the direct support and supervision of the US administration, led by President Donald Trump. The ambassador noted that the “spirit of the Abraham Accords” continues to act as a primary engine for opening unprecedented prospects for regional cooperation among the three countries.
Upgrading diplomatic representation and strengthening partnerships
Data from the trilateral meeting revealed a Moroccan-Israeli consensus on developing diplomatic coordination, as it was decided to upgrade the representations of both countries in Rabat and Tel Aviv from liaison offices to the level of embassies, with the initiation of procedures for exchanging ambassadors in the near future.
On the economic and services front, the joint statement included a clear commitment to work toward the resumption of direct flights between Morocco and Israel, through both Moroccan and Israeli airlines, by the end of 2026. Both parties also aspire to complete a series of vital economic agreements, particularly those related to the promotion and protection of investments and the avoidance of double taxation, paving the way for more robust economic cooperation over the next two years.
It is noteworthy that these developments represent a new chapter in the strengthening of Moroccan-Israeli relations, which began with the trilateral declaration in December 2020, moving today from the phase of resuming relations to an advanced level of strategic and full diplomatic partnership.
