PJD leadership calls on members to ignore controversy over diplomatic representation with Tel Aviv

In a move aimed at regulating internal debate and guiding political focus, the General Secretariat of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) held an extraordinary, closed-door meeting via videoconference on Thursday, September 17, 2026, following frequent media reports regarding the upgrading of diplomatic relations and representation between Morocco and the Zionist entity.

PJD’s Firm Stance on Normalization

In an official statement, the General Secretariat confirmed that it had discussed this development, regarding which no official statement has yet been issued by Moroccan authorities. The party’s leadership emphasized its firm and principled position, which rejects all forms of normalization with the Zionist entity, considering this position to be in line with the party’s historical convictions and its declared stances, including its current electoral program.

Instructions to Focus on Election Efforts

In an attempt to contain any repercussions this controversy might have on the party’s electoral path, the General Secretariat called on its supporters to avoid delving into this subject, whether within party circles or on public debate platforms.

The leadership clarified that the current priority must remain the “duty of the hour,” which is to continue the electoral campaign to promote the party’s program. The party emphasized that its program is based on fundamental axes concerning:

  • Achieving dignity for citizens and responding to their legitimate expectations.
  • Intensifying efforts to fight corruption and counter conflicts of interest.
  • Defending the supreme interests of the nation, primarily the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
  • Continuing to support just causes of the nation, led by the Palestinian cause.

This move by the PJD, led by Abdelilah Benkirane, confirms the party’s endeavor to maintain internal cohesion and direct its energy toward the elections, while simultaneously adhering to its political discourse, which views normalization as an issue that conflicts with the party’s established constants.
