Behind the Scenes: Cocaine Shipment Seized in Government Vehicle in Algeria

Smuggling suspicions within a state-owned enterprise stir public opinion in Algeria
Algerian activist and dissident Amir Boukhors, known as «Amir Dz», has revealed details of a case he describes as a «resounding scandal» involving the seizure of a large shipment of hard drugs loaded onto a truck belonging to the Société nationale des travaux routiers Centre (EPTRC). This information has sparked a wave of questions regarding the extent of drug trafficking networks’ penetration within public institutions in Algeria.
Details of the Seized Shipment
According to «Amir Dz», the operation carried out by the CTRI resulted in the seizure of approximately 50 kilograms of cocaine and significant quantities of pregabalin. The shipment was tightly concealed inside a fuel tanker truck traveling from Tamanrasset toward the Chiffa region in Blida, before being intercepted near the Wilaya of Ouargla. The source pointed out that the truck was being escorted by a Toyota vehicle belonging to the same company, which allegedly served to scout the road and ensure safe passage through security checkpoints.
Questions Regarding «Cover-ups» and Leadership Responsibility
The dissident journalist raised major questions about the lack of official media coverage, wondering if the connection between the shipment and a national company is the reason for the absolute silence. He also opened the door to the possibility that high-ranking officials within the company, including the CEO, are implicated, casting doubt on whether legal accountability will be limited only to the drivers.

This incident recalls the 701 kg cocaine scandal that erupted in 2018 at the port of Oran, which was linked at the time to businessman Kamel Chikhi, known as «El Bouchi». That case exposed dangerous intersections between smuggling networks and influential figures.
