Illegal slaughterhouse network dismantled in Fès security operation

The judicial police of the fourth security district of Bensouda in Fès ended the activities of a criminal network last Tuesday, specialized in illegal slaughtering and storing meat in conditions that lacked the most basic health and safety standards. The operation followed precise investigations that led to a raid on a secret workshop in the popular Al Massira district.

The case began when security authorities received complaints from neighbors regarding foul odors emanating from a house that the main suspect had been renting for about a year and a half. The Al Massira police precinct conducted an initial inspection, confirming suspicious activities related to the packaging and storage of meat, which necessitated the intervention of the judicial police for further investigation.

Shocking data regarding the seizures

Informed sources confirmed that the operation resulted in the seizure of more than 800 kilograms of meat, sausages, and spleen, which were prepared for sale in local markets, specifically to snack shops and street vendors. A doctor from the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) clarified that the seized items lacked any health seals, were of unknown origin, and were completely unfit for human consumption.

Equipment and tools for concealment

A thorough inspection of the workshop revealed “extremely miserable” storage conditions; three broken refrigerators and machines for grinding meat and preparing sausages were seized. Security personnel also found about 30 kilograms of spices, which preliminary investigations indicate were being used to mask the foul odors resulting from the rotting meat.

Legal procedures and follow-up

Based on the instructions of the competent public prosecutor, the seized quantities were destroyed. Three people, including a woman and two employees, have been placed in police custody to complete investigations and reveal all those involved.
