A Moroccan cybersecurity genius challenges the giants at the global finals in Bali

A Moroccan footprint at the heart of global technology
In a move that strengthens the Kingdom’s status as an emerging technological hub, the Moroccan team VoidSec, affiliated with the company IKLIGHT, has managed to secure the top spot in the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa region in the international cybersecurity competition KasperskyCTF. This achievement is the result of outstanding technical performance that earned the team a ticket to the final stage to be hosted in Bali, Indonesia.
Fierce competition and records
According to the results announced by Kaspersky, the Moroccan team participated in an intense competition involving 1,657 teams from 98 countries. This edition witnessed great diversity, including 1,024 university teams and 633 teams representing major institutions and companies, all competing for 24 hours to test their capabilities in protecting systems and data.
High-level technical challenges
The tests covered precise and complex areas, including encryption, vulnerability exploitation, cyberattack analysis, and AI system security. During this phase, approximately 17,000 “flags” (technical proofs) were submitted, of which 5,238 were validated in the final assessment, reflecting the complexity faced by the participating teams.
Towards the international final in Bali
Following this regional triumph, VoidSec is one of only five teams to qualify directly, alongside teams from Colombia, Italy, South Korea, and Russia. The Moroccan team is expected to face even tougher challenges in the SAS CTF final, organized during the “Security Analyst Summit” in Bali, from October 20 to 23. This phase will require competitors not only to discover vulnerabilities but also to protect their own systems while launching counter-attacks on rival systems.
Significance of the achievement in the context of digital transformation
This qualification comes at a time when Morocco is paying increasing attention to developing its cybersecurity ecosystem, in line with the accelerating pace of institutional digitization. The participation of VoidSec confirms the ability of Moroccan talent to compete internationally in specialized fields, reflecting the development of a national base of expertise capable of protecting the country’s digital sovereignty and countering complex cyber threats.
