Moroccan-Emirati Strategic Partnership for Green Hydrogen Production in the Dakhla Region

Moroccan-Emirati Partnership to Boost Clean Energy in the Southern Provinces
Economic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Arab Emirates are taking a qualitative step forward through the implementation of massive projects in the clean energy sector in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region. This move comes as part of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries, focusing on future-oriented sectors that the Kingdom is leveraging to attract significant foreign investment.
Project Details: $25 Billion Investment for Green Ammonia Production
The general direction of this partnership, overseen by Moroccan and Emirati companies, involves integrated projects for the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia. According to available data, the total programmed investments could reach $25 billion, distributed across several phases. The cost of the first phase alone is estimated at approximately $4 billion, with the goal of reaching an annual production capacity of about one million tons of green ammonia, while opening the door for subsequent phases to develop production and enhance the region’s export and industrial capabilities.
The Dakhla Atlantic Port: A Strategic Pillar for Economic Growth
Morocco does not view these projects as mere transient energy investments, but as part of a broader vision that places the Dakhla Atlantic Port at the heart of economic dynamics. This port is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting these industrial and energy projects, serving as a major commercial and logistical platform connecting Morocco to its African depth. The introduction of green hydrogen technologies contributes to gradually transforming Dakhla into a regional industrial and energy hub that serves the strategic directions of both countries.
Dimensions of the Partnership: From Energy to Sustainable Development
This trend reflects the desire of both parties to create real added value in Morocco’s southern regions through technology transfer and investment in sustainable energy infrastructure. Economic analysts believe that these projects give the Moroccan-Emirati partnership a new economic dimension that goes beyond traditional cooperation to include clean technology and sustainable development sectors, thereby enhancing the region’s attractiveness as a global destination for major investments in the green energy sector.
