Expansion of Tétouan Saniat R’mel Airport with an investment exceeding 77 million dirhams

New development plan increases the capacity of Tétouan Saniat R’mel Airport

As part of a national strategy to modernize Moroccan airport infrastructure, the National Airports Office (ONDA) has announced the launch of a new tender for the development of Tétouan Saniat R’mel Airport facilities, with an estimated budget of 77.7 million dirhams. This ambitious project aims to upgrade the airport to handle higher air traffic, in line with the tourism and economic growth currently experienced by the city of Tétouan and its surrounding areas.

Project details and expansion goals

The new bid includes a range of complex technical and engineering works, primarily the construction of a new aircraft parking apron to international standards, alongside comprehensive earthworks. The contract also involves developing water and sewage networks, executing concrete works, and equipping parking areas with the latest technology to ensure smooth ground operations.

The relevant authorities have set October 1, 2026, as the deadline for receiving offers and opening bids, with a site visit scheduled for competing companies on September 16, aimed at closely examining the site’s requirements and the technical specifications needed.

Tétouan Airport: Toward one million passengers

This investment is not limited to the aircraft apron but is part of a series of ongoing expansion projects; two additional parking positions for aircraft are expected to be created by 2025. These steps coincide with the project to build a new, advanced passenger terminal, which is expected to raise the airport’s annual capacity to approximately one million passengers.

These initiatives strengthen the role of Saniat R’mel Airport as a key engine for regional development and address the increasing demand for tourism destinations in northern Morocco, which will directly contribute to supporting the local economy and attracting more investments as well as international and domestic flight routes.
