In a gesture reflecting the high regard the security institution holds for its members, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance has decided to grant an exceptional promotion to the late security officer Hamza El Zaam, who passed away while performing his noble duties within the anti-gang unit of the regional security in Al Hoceima.

Circumstances of the bloody security intervention in Imzouren

The tragedy occurred during a joint operation in which the Al Hoceima anti-gang unit was supporting a Royal Gendarmerie team in the Imzouren area. The operation aimed to arrest a 25-year-old individual, considered a high-priority security target, with approximately 20 national search warrants against him for offenses ranging from drug trafficking and attempted voluntary homicide to kidnapping and forming criminal gangs.

Violent confrontation ends in tragedy

According to field reports, the suspect did not surrender; instead, he put up fierce resistance, using a hunting rifle to directly target members of the National Security and the Royal Gendarmerie. This brutal criminal assault resulted in the death of security officer Hamza El Zaam, who succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital, and left a technician responsible for opening doors injured. Security forces eventually succeeded in neutralizing the threat and arresting the perpetrator.

Investigations continue to uncover the network

The Public Prosecutor has subjected the suspect to an in-depth judicial investigation to uncover all the circumstances of this criminal act and determine the individual’s potential links to international drug trafficking networks and psychotropic substances, ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice.
