Security services in Marrakech arrested a prominent activist, who heads an organization in the religious sector, last Thursday for his involvement in a case of fraud and impersonation of a regulated position. The arrest followed a series of complaints accusing the individual of exploiting perceived influence to trap his victims.

Claims of influence and links to sensitive institutions

According to available information, the suspect used his fraudulent schemes to trick victims into believing he held extensive relations within the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, in addition to claiming direct connections with influential circles within the Royal Palace. He used these claims to influence victims and exploit them both materially and morally, utilizing “documentary photos” alongside senior officials, which he published on his association’s website.

The mystery of the “official vehicle” and past associations

Ongoing investigations revealed that investigators have seized a service vehicle bearing an official license plate (red letter M). The vehicle was impounded to investigate its source and determine who enabled him to use it, despite him holding no administrative position that would authorize such usage. It is worth noting that the individual’s name was previously linked to controversial incidents, most notably his involvement in the Eid sacrifice event on behalf of the region’s inhabitants last year, an incident that hastened the dismissal of the former Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region.

Judicial proceedings under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor

The suspect has been placed in police custody pending the judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation currently aims to uncover all circumstances surrounding this case and to determine the potential reach of these criminal activities, with a focus on identifying those who facilitated his access to the state vehicle for his suspicious activities.
