Secrets of the Hidden Axis: French Agent Reveals How Iran and Hezbollah Support the Polisario Under Algerian Auspices

Mathieu Guediri, a former operative of the French counter-espionage service, has unveiled highly classified details regarding the coordination mechanism established by the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to link the Polisario Front with the Lebanese Hezbollah. The intelligence expert confirmed that this alliance relies on military training, equipment, and funding, leveraging the Front’s networks in the Sahel and Sahara region, while Algerian intelligence services retain the ultimate political and security control over the movement.
Historical Roots and Strategic Role Distribution
Guediri, who previously succeeded in infiltrating Iranian intelligence services for the French DST, explained that the alliance between the Polisario, Hezbollah, and the Iranian regime is not a new development; its roots extend back to before the 1979 Iranian Revolution, when a delegation from the Front met Ayatollah Khomeini during his stay in France.
Hezbollah’s Fingerprints: Tunnels and Drones in Tindouf
The former French-Iranian agent revealed that the military support includes missiles, drones, and advanced training. Hezbollah members have trained separatists in techniques characteristic of the group in the Middle East, most notably the construction of underground tunnels for weapon storage, alongside mobile unit tactics and drone operations.
Smuggling and Financing: Secret Routes Through the Sahel
To avoid international detection, Iran relies on indirect networks. Beirut serves as the primary departure point for equipment, which transits through intermediaries in Mali before reaching Tindouf. Funding is managed through Hezbollah’s commercial fronts in Africa, under the full knowledge of Algerian intelligence.
Ideological Dimension and Algeria’s Complex Calculus
The intelligence expert noted that Algeria accepts Iranian military and financial support to weaken Morocco, while simultaneously refusing to relinquish its absolute control over the Polisario Front. In this context, the Iranian embassy in Algeria acts as a cautious link to coordinate field operations.
